I guess this puts the likelihood of and American win somewhere in the 0-.1% range

Ummm.... ever heard of Billy Mills?
Bekele has basically retired. I don’t expect him to run fast. If he even finishes it will be a miracle.
This past fall ran NYC marathon and also ran Pre a few times.

Just ran NYC marathon a couple of months ago
Also 4th in Chicago in 2014 (Kipchoge won).
Bekele sub 2. Im calling it.

He ran respectably in NYC and didn't DNF even though he wasn't in contention for the win. Why the hate?
Was hoping that they'd get Kipchoge... maybe next year? Maybe he'll do NYC... I think he said he wanted to do all the majors. hopefully that can happen while he's still on top of his game and not just showing up for appearance fees.
Hoping that Rupp runs a fast marathon in the spring on an AR eligible course.

Also, people seem to have short memories. Bekele's mile PR of 4:01.57 was set in the Wanamaker at MSG. Lagat absolutely destroyed him.
Great to see Bekele there,I helped push him to his fastest ever time in Berlin and hopefully do the same in Boston.
It's a very strong field.
I hope there will be not too many injuries/Covid infection before the race.
Cherono is the favorite here. He already won Boston (and Chicago) in 2019.
Crazy that Desisa’s marathon PR is from 2013!
Letsrun should pay the appearance fee for a Connor Mantz debut
Bekele is the favorite. He will run sub 2.

So it's basically a mens elite field of "Bekele and a bunch of fast East Africans that are virtually indistinguishable from each other to anyone who doesn't REALLY follow men's marathoning"
It is a fast elite field, absolutely. Hard to pick a winner.
Where's Rupp?
So it’s like any other marathon field.
I see Paul Hogan's in the field. Not a bad PR for a retired actor. Will any of his peers show up? I'd like to see him square off against John Cleese. Let's face it, though: Eastwood or DeNiro kills those guys.
Hopefully KB is in decent shape.
Watch it rain and be super windy and some no-name American wins it. He can then say he beat Bekele. A great conversation starter at parties.
Where's Rupp?? Boston is his race. Injured? Afraid of getting 11th in this field? Retired and officially a full-time anonymous Lets Run commenter? Come on, let's see some investigative journalism.
What is the over/under on Bekele making it to the start or finish?
Just for fun, let's say that the stars align for the 2022 edition. Great fields. Cloudy weather in the low 50s. A stiff wind blowing in towards Boston. Someone wins in 1:59 or possibly 1:58. The women's race is won in 2:12.
Greatest marathon race ever or All-time clown course (CIM goes home devastated!)?
