I’m transitioning from 400m to an 800m runner. In high school, I ran 2:04 with a 51 and 5:30 seasons best. That year i was running somewhere around 15mpw. I am now in college, running around 45-50ish miles, improving my 1600 to 4:48 as of this November. I haven’t done much speed work, and feel like my speed is lacking, having much more difficulties running 29/28 when I could do 26/27s for reps in high school (granted those 29s were on a muddy dirt track). I did a solo time trial in the last week of november, running 2:08, but I don’t think that this performance was very indicative of my fitness at that time (to give context , I went out in 60, blew up and ran a 68. It was really cold and early in the morning (much earlier than I normally get up)). Just wondering how I can improve my speed (indoor opener later this month) and what are the chances I hopefully run under 2:00 soon?
