I was an assistant coach at a small rural college. The head coach ran 2:48 in his prime for the marathon. He would always say he ran 2:25 in practice "not even breathing hard", preparing for the Boston marathon in the 80's. He would call himself a 2:15 marathoner because he was "in that shape". But of course he just tells everyone he ran 2:15....
The terrible part is people actually see him as a nice guy and "local hero". After working with him, I realize he's a delusional, lying scumbag. He also takes credit for the athletes I coached directly during that time period. Even to the media in a few newspaper interviews. He would lie about his past coaching "accomplishments" by saying he coached Olympians (he never did) to recruits and even spouted that off to the athletes.
But hey, I'm just an entitled millennial who needs to learn his place.
