Sorry, I missed this reply and enjoy communicating with you.
You saw less federal tax being taken from your check? Paid less at tax time? I ask because I got soaked and know for a fact that taxes on the middle class were raised and continue to rise under the 2017 tax cut for the wealthy/corporations bill.
My GOP/Dem bias comes from ignorance spawned shouts on most any topic. The OP started this thread with no other intent than to imply the current president is solely responsible for inflation. No thought or facts, just read inflation was up 7% and ran with it. Almost any topic will draw such low mentality venom. If trump did nothing else, he made it okay to make lies without any facts acceptable and attack anyone/everyone who may disagree. He made it okay to openly be an a$$ to anyone who is not just like you.
I am socially liberal and get sick of no one challenging this thought process. I am mid-50s and have been independent most of my life and pride myself on disliking both parties and the process itself. That changed when people backed a horrible human being, normalizing such behavior. I presume I will shift back toward the middle once the element of treating others with disrespect loses it's steam.
I am not saying that some things are not quickly shifting left. What I am saying is I believe it is a very vocal minority on many topics, just like the trumpians I outlined above. These fringes now have an ear and are not afraid to bellow their rhetoric any chance they get. I do not think things are as supported (left or right fringe) as much as it seems. Media makes money in getting those fringe beliefs out there.
Just have to add: why do people question giving free healthcare to undocumented immigrants rather than questioning why we are the only country in the civilized world to not provide free healthcare for all?
I enjoy the civil dialogue as well. I completely understand that most political topics are from a binary perspective, but I think its important to try to move past that. LetsRun forums aren't known for their civility, so I understand your initial responses being from a partisan standpoint.
I agree that the fringe of each party tends to make the most noise as their content gets the media attention that the news and online sites enjoy. It just seems that Biden is entertaining the farther left side of the spectrum than the left of center. This seems to go against what his stance was during his campaign against Trump.
I share your same sentiment of general disdain for the two political parties, sadly I don't see Biden as much of an improvement from a character standard from Trump. Biden seems to have issues at times with managing his anger as well as demonstrating disregard for the Constitution, leading to authoritarian tendencies such as extending the rent moratorium and trying to pass sweeping vaccine mandates.
Biden ran on a platform of "unity" and while he may not be as openly disrespectful to people as Trump, he is by no means the great uniter that most Americans thought he would be. I believe this is reflected in his current abysmal approval rating. He seems to be bit tone deaf to what most Americans care about as well as evidenced by his trip to GA this week to talk about voting rights when polling shows that voting rights are very low on the list of concerns for Americans. Stacey Abrams, who is running for governor in GA, didn't even show up when her niche is voting rights. The King family stated they were conflicted on whether to go or not. I hate to say it, but I feel like a lot of politicians think that twitter is their voting constituency and as long as they get twitter likes, they call it a W.
A lot of rambling but hopefully it shows why I am so disgruntled with the current state of politics in this country. There are plenty of faults among the conservatives as well that we could rant on as well. These are just a few of the most recent things ive noticed.
As far as free healthcare, I am against the federal government getting involved in my healthcare. They've already displayed authoritative tendencies in regards to healthcare with vaccine mandates, that's not a good sign. I work in healthcare and can see a microcosm of government controlled healthcare: The VA. If that is any indication of how well government controlled healthcare will operate, then no thanks.
Look around, at the $5 gas and the hobos pooping in our parks, at the constantly shifting vaccine/mask goalposts and the cat ladies/public school teachers determined to inject Ibram X. Kendian race hustling into your kids’ cerebellums.
Look at how Inflation just hit another new high of 7% on the same day we will hit a new high on covid hospitalizations & cases.
Look at the unvaxxed illegal immigrants flooding your communities.
You did that, non-dead Biden voters!
This is your failure.
Look at the fear-mongering. One of the many contradictions made by modern-day conservatives. BTW, Biden has not been good. But we got Biden because we had Trump. Trump is directly responsible for many things that are wrong with this country right now. BTW, how has that stock market done since Trump?
This is all on Joe the imbecile...Inflation at a 40 year high, reminds me of another incompetent Democrat named Jimmy Carter, had to wait in long lines to buy expensive gas...Who are the cretins/runners who voted for Joe Biden?
Unfortunately in a 2 minute video in a sanitized TV studio with a raise of hands you don't get the full picture of the debate.
Immigrants (whether illegal or legal) should not be questioned about their immigration status by doctors and nurses at the hospital - it's not their job to do that. It's the job of Customs and Border Protection.
The rhetoric and endgame is to place the border in every hospital, school and workplace. If you're concerned about authoritative tendencies THAT is what you should be concerned with - govt asking for your doctor or your landlord or your bank to enforce immigration regulations and share information about you with them.
My god are you annoying. Posting 3 paragraphs of what might look like a cogent argument to someone who skims it: some vaguely smart-sounding facts strung together in a semi-coherent order. But there are massive gaps between one fact and the conclusion you draw from it supported by nothing. It's like the underpants gnome from south park. several steps are missing but you come to the conclusions anyway.
The lack of public housing is responsible for inflation? lol.
Just like the Carter administration inflation is temporary? Yeah, i mean everything is temporary given a long enough time scale. Inflation in Zimbabwe and Venezuela was temporary too but tell those guys it's okay because it was just temporary.
Nah...it's BS noise. Illegal immigrants are the boogeyman for the right. The GOP handed to us the labor shortage we have in part because of this boogeyman stance...keeps immigrants from trying to come here at all.
Jimmy carter 2.0. Democrat incompetence is on full display.
It’s a mess. Buttjudge might work on the supply chain crisis after maternity leave (sick and disgusting).
Biden administration are too busy working on diversity initiatives to help with the economy.
What a ridiculous comment.
The stock market has killed it since Biden took office. The amount of money I have made in the stock market over the last year is obscene.
Besides your obvious homophobia comment about Buttigieg, there isn't too much he can do in the short term to help the supply chain issue. We just don't have enough workers. Pandemic keeping lots of people home with small children, and Boomers are staying away from working also (many times retired people like to have part-time jobs to give themselves something to do, but they don't want to risk it due to the pandemic, and the strong stock market since 2009 allows them to not work at all), and then, the anti-immigrant stance that has been in the US for about the last 6 years has kept people from coming here (also the pandemic) to work.
The unemployment rate is 3.9% which is very low. 5% is considered "full employment by many", so ostensibly, everyone who wants a job has a job.
GDP is up.
Interest rates are low.
Personal income is up.
Yes inflation is high, but it's primarily caused by the pandemic and its effects. It won't last forever. It's not a policy thing. If you are concerned about inflation and you aren't wealthy, then lower your spending on silly things, go get a second part-time job which are found EVERYWHERE, and if inflation eventually makes interest rates go up, put some money in CDs or some other such vehicle that goes up with skyrocketing inflation.
The alternative to Biden was the authoritarian Trump, so...umm, no.
