This is a great thread. Love hearing everybody's experience making it this long.
I can't believe I 'm gonna be 60 this year. Time flies!
Ran a few 20 flat 5ks this year but just couldn't get under. Amazed at the difference between trying to hold 6:20 vs 6:25 pace now for only a 5k. Held that for a 'thon 20 years ago .
I guess "attitude is everything" and just happy to made this long.
My secret to success all these years has been, "go with the flow and adjust as you go". People would ask me before a race what are you gonna do? I say," go with the flow and adjust as you go". Applied the same to training. I guess its the same as "live to fight another day".
I would run 7 days a week but would vary the work outs and moderation. For example after Sunday 16-20 , Monday would be quick 100/200 "floats" totaling 3k or so. Legs are tired from Sunday trying to get some " pop" back in'em.
The *psychology" is I did a decent gempo long run on Sunday and a "speed" workout Monday. Plus, its a "rest" day that being a reduction of 90% in mileage ! Also trained two completely systems.
Knee has started to bug me and it's a just a matter of time before no more rubber left on the wheel. Gee what a surprise. Just don't want to be so broken and busted up that quality of life sucks as I get "older". Biking & swimming sucks.....I'm a runner .
PS. One advantage of running slow is the scenery is much better back in "pack" . Had I know that I would have slowed down earlier ;)
