Been wearing Hoka Clifton line for a couple years now and every time I try to switch shoes I get hurt. Recently my shoes were at the end of their lifespan so I got a pair of Nike Infinity Reacts. My legs had some aches and pains already, but within a couple of days I got shin splits. Any solutions (aside from buying another pair of Clifton’s)?
You may need to adjust slowly.
Hokas are pretty much granny shoes and baby your legs into not taking any real pounding. Your legs muscles are probably horribly underdeveloped and hence you blow up trying to move into real shoes. It's the same issues treadmill-only runners experience when they move onto the roads for the first time - shin splints, knee pain, lower back pain etc.
Buy another pair of Cliftons, and maybe start with 10% of your mileage in the new shoes and 90% in the Hokas for the first week. The next week change it to 20/80, and 30/70 the week after that etc.
