He went pro, dîpshît. Now what will you find to whine about?
Your boy, Charlie Hunter, was 25/26. Why didn’t you cry about him?
I think Olin Hacker is 25.
Eliud Kipsang from Alabama is 25 years old and is considered a freshmen this upcoming indoor season.
People are bent out of shape because BYU is one of the dominant programs over a very long period of time. They consistently churn out top-level distance runners by NCAA standards. Many have gone on to success at a higher level than that. They do it with a complete absence of East African talent. Controversially, they shun many of the customs, traditions, and social mores that the broader collegiate crowd embraces. If it is really true (it's not) that all their runners are well over 40, then their accomplishments are all the more impressive.
But to answer the question, he actually did have a year left when he bailed out of the system. Competed in exactly 4 NCAA XC champs. Didn't take the extra Covid year, even though he was welcome to. Ran one fewer year than a lot of them.
It is stated on anti-LDS threads that if you feel it is a huge advantage to graduate from high school, quit running for 2 years or longer, then enter the NCAA system, you are welcome to do so. What no one ever mentions is that you are also allowed to graduate, go to Iten or even Flagstaff, train like mad for 2 or more years, then go to college. If you are convince 2 years on the couch gives you an insurmountable advantage, surely 4 years of uninterrupted training would too. You are welcome to do this. You are also welcome to burn all of your elegibity prior to your 22nd birthday.
Your choice. If you did not win multiple NCAA titles yourself, it is no one's fault but your own. Nobody else impeded your quest. You choked- plain and simple.
None of these geezers should be allowed. The academic year in which you turn 23 should be your limit. That gives most athletes 4y + an injury/redshirt etc year

People need to get over the age thing.
There are 21 year olds in the NFL and NBA.
The 5k and 10k WR were set by a 21 year old.
Surely the 21+22 year old NCAA runners can compete against a handful of 24 year olds.

Age is wrong he was 23 or 24 when he broke the WR but my point still stands.
Why does it matter? How about foreigners who start college at 24? How about somebody who goes into the military for a few years?
Pure trolling. He has no eligibility left - I think he went pro with Nike. Just more idiot trolls. Kiptoo, Kioko, and others are in their mid 20's. and they are still running. Time to let this stupid subject rest.
Athanas Kioko is 26 (https://worldathletics.org/athletes/kenya/athanas-kioko-14923169) Great runner - should keep running for the NCAAs as long as he can.

No, nO, NO. The NCAA should be student athletes of about the same age who are legitimately students and who finished HS recently.
I don't regard any oldster or grandpa as a legit competitor. Period. I just mentally exclude them in race results.
How do you know? Did you research the top top schools at the NCAA meet? I guarantee that you don't know the age of 1/2 of the kids.

You'll have a lot of competitors to mentally exclude from the 70's and 80's.

Inside source at the NCAA said they decided since he’s a repeat champion it’s going to be like in pick up basketball where the winner stays.
He’s going to be able to show up at nationals as long as he keeps winning it. Expect an announcement around NCAA indoor weekend
