I recently returned to running after a decades long vacation. Not familiar with modern equipment. At about 190 lbs how many miles should I expect to get out of a typical pair of shoes. Also any recommendations? I'm doing 2-4 miles every other day, a mix of pavement & trails. I'd love to keep the cost as low as possible. Thanks.
Realistically, around 400 miles for most shoes. If you're starting out and carrying extra weight, 300. Your low mileage at first will make the shoes last longer, but the way to save money isn't primarily through higher miles (eventually it starts to affect recovery, and that's bad for beginning/returning runners), but by getting shoes on sale. Get last year's model to drop the price to $100 or less.
The most important thing for starting back up is to stay healthy, so saving a few bucks on shoes may not be a good investment right now.
