Life fitness integrity series ‘mill
Shorts for runs until the temperature drops below 25 F. Absolute rule that will not be broken.
Underwear under running shorts to keep “the tip” unfrozen
Slow on corners. Faster pace than normal on cold days with short warmup.
Split (outside/inside) If possible if you have a treadmill or indoor bike, this is what I sometimes do. I start our with a goal say running for 1 hour and will break it up as such: first 30min outside and 30 min on the mill/indoor bike. Most of the time, I just end of running 1 hour outside but having the option to just do 30 min outside gets me out the door.
Loops: When it's windy, have 1-3 mile loops so you are not always facing the wind too long. I have done some good long runs in the cold and wind with using the a 3 mile loop-just knowing some sections I'll have the wind in my face makes it easier and I don't get to cold.
dont over dress, if you are comfortable when you step out the door, then you need to shed a layer... or two.
if its really cold and windy put a extra glove in your crotch to keep from getting d!ck freeze.
if you have to go to the treadmill do a workout, just steady running the mill is the worst. workouts aren't too bad though, you can very accurate on the paces, and the changing tempo keeps you from getting too bored.
winter is a great time to "get strong" so any and all forms of cross training can be tossed into a treadmill workout,
(push ups+pull ups+ squats then run a mile, repeat over and over) stuff that you'd probably never do on the roads or trail.
1. Don’t forget to drink water before you run
You can be dehydrated in winter it prevents optimal blood flow to extremities can get frost bite
2. Run into wind going out
3. Don’t do long runs far from home Ie try to find a loop if possible if you have to walk you risk freezing up
4. Move to florida
