Nico Young held his own in the top heat back in 2020, why not give Sahlman the same opportunity?

They don't want him to win.
Who in the field would he run with?
No one. He could probably pick off a few guys who went out too hard if he runs a controlled effort.

His season went through December and Millrose is early this year being in late january. The kid needs to rest
Because he's not entering a race in which he will get dead last. This guy dodges competition by entering entering exclusively events with nobody older than 18. He's become a huge fish by racing in a very shallow pond.
All for his inclusion, but that will be one strong field. Pretty sure he couldn't hang. Don't want to see him lapped.
Very unfortunate. Then again, maybe better fir his future progression. Too much pressure, too soon.

You realize he ran a 1500 meters last year at the sound running meet against collegians and pros?

Held his own? Did you happen to watch the race?

The Newbury hate on this board is unreal. You guys really need to chill out.

2 seconds behind Nijel Amos, lol. He's even better this year and might be able to pick off 1-2 of them if he has a good day.
In my opinion, this field is much stronger than the field Nico ran with and the gap for Colin over 3k compared to 15 against pros would be much bigger. The field this year is much faster and realistically challenging the 7:30 barrier when in Nico's race it seemed to be more tactical and was won by Knight in a tactical kick. Colin's definitely not dodging competition with this one.
Why assume that Colin wasn't offered a spot on the starting line? Maybe he was, and he declined. It has been known to happen, you know.

The year Nico ran Millrose he also ran through Dec and Millrose is just 1 week earlier this year.
Wasn't assuming that. Just trying to get across him dodging this competition being negative is poorly judged. With this field and how races are getting faster and faster rather than tactical in the pros as Hoare went over here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4UM--bUK8o Colin dodging this competition is the smarter move since he had a long xc season and Millrose is earlier this year. Also specific to the field in question, he would be practically time trialing and could even be lapped.
He would get lapped.

Newbury Park will never dodge competition. it's seems people dodge Newbury Park. I bet you see the Newbury Park guys in some races this winter. They literally go after anyone and dominate for a reason. The millrose 3k is a pro stacked field. I don't think they are going to let anyone from High School this year in that Millrose 3k.
only 2 seconds behind a 400/800 runner. lol

So now we are making fun of a high school kid for finishing 2 seconds behind a 1:41 Olympic silver medalist? At least let him finish high school before trying to tear him down.
