Great showing by Mantz. I assume the focus shifted to winning vs time because it mattered more in his contract negotiations. Couldn’t afford to go out too hot and blow up. I hope this gets him the contract he’s looking for.

Good performance got the win. Would like him to maybe go for 10K this cycle but after that attack the roads almost exclusively.
Oh, okay. We will make sure we relay your wishes.
Looked like a BYU alumni reunion race. Three in the top four – sheesh!

BYU alumni did well today!
Galen ran 1:01.52 in 2021
Anyone see if he was wearing a kit for a new sponsor?
Was wearing an old Nike ELITE Camp singlet.

Chris Chavez just posted on Twitter that Mantz signed with Flynn Sports and Nike. He raced in a Nike kit and Vaporflys.
I'm actually quite surprised he won.

I’m not. HM AR next year, maybe even next race.
Decent result. Not going to scare any elite fields but it's great for him that he has a domestic title to start his career. And a whole 5 seconds quicker than Frank Lara ran in Valencia

Minor detail: A whole 1:24 faster than Frank Lara ran TODAY. If he finished that far ahead of Lara in Valencia, he'd have the American record. Mantz in on another level right now. If he can stay healthy he'll have the record as soon as he has a fast group to pace him.

Yes, because that's exactly how it works. Why even bother running races? There's honestly nothing dumber than the LRC obsession with the transitive property, which is basically meaningless in a sporting context
Anyone know why Eric Avila DNFed at 20k? Sure he wasn't in for the win, but it's only another kilometer.

Ok so he wouldn't have clobbered Lara in Valencia even though he was on another level today. Got it.

His IG says he is Nike athletic and former BYU...

Mantz will be our next US hero to replace Rupp. This is so exciting.
It's not just one race. He's smashed Lara any time they've raced head to head, and is easily the better runner in any comparison at every level. Both runners at full strength, I'd expect him to aways beat Lara.

Correct. But he also ran 60:22 in a solo time trial in Eugene. Mantz is impressive, but he ain't Galen.

He isn't Galen, but Rupp stayed on the track for most of his post collegiate career and has eschewed time trial races for placing well at majors on the roads. If Mantz goes straight to the roads and does some time trial style races, I can see him beating Rupps half and full marathon times.
