It’s everything:
The school is large…2500ish if memory serves… large student population means more chance you end up with a stud.
Then you add the large school population to a culture of success. Look at all the big time HS programs… especially in NY… they have success that goes back decades… kids are drawn to that. Helps when you land a stud like Nico… his success further sells the idea that anyone can be like him.
Then you land 2 families worth of world beater studs and put them with a coach who knows what he’s doing and you get a recipe for greatness. He knew what he had in terms of talent and he didn’t ruin it. That’s good coaching… knowing when to get the F out of the way and let your horses run.
The interesting thing will be: how he rebounds once the world beaters leave… for me, this is the mark of dominance: look at Toga or FM… year after year they are dominant… never seems to matter who is on the roster. Will we ever see a team like Newbury Park again… statistically, yes, but IMO, not anytime soon. The question will be: will Newbury continue to compete for State and Nat titles when the Stahlmans and Young’s are gone. If they do, then he has a real machine on his hands… Dominance is about longevity… the verdict in my mind is still out on that subject… Toga has been doing it since the 80s… give it 20years… if he is still winning titles, then you will have a better answer. He’s off to a great start though… this year alone will draw more kids to the program… National fame is a powerful thing.
