Are you a psychiatrist? How did you make that diagnosis without actually doing an in person evaluation as is required?
There is more than enough evidence to make the diagnosis.
If you have eyes to see, ears to hear, and something in between, it’s a pretty obvious conclusion. Fast kids, great program, but we also said that about Salazar once upon a time.
If you throw in the 3000m conversions from last indoor season, you've got a good argument for them being "really close".
8:01 3000m -> 8:36 3200m
7:57 -> 8:32
So you've got 8:32, 8:33, 8:36, and 8:39.
Leo likely would've run faster than 8:39 if he hadn't gotten sick as he was consistently better than Lex this track season when healthy. But still, that's an average of 5 seconds off, not too shabby.

Do you guys think Brosnan sets the standards too high sometimes?
this is something i consider when setting goals with my kids, but I think you can do it in a way where they don't feel like a failure for missing those big goals. as long as you aren't overtraining them in the quest for those times, I don't see a problem. There are many incremental goals to be proud of on the way to a much larger goal.

dream big; think big
There’s a difference between setting goals and standards for your team and making public proclamations about what the kids on your team are going to do.
Not really, even if they didn't all break 8:30, they still had 4 at 4:01 or faster. Given that they had 3:58, 7:57, and 8:01 indoors, 8:30 seemed like a really realistic goal for outdoors. Based on what else they did outdoors:
Colin's 3:56 converts to well under 8:30
Leo's 4:00 converts to 8:31
Lex and Aaron's 4:01s convert to 8:33, plus Lex ran 13:43.
Their 3200 attempt at Arcadia didn't go to plan, but that was really the only off race they had all season. I don't think that 4 under 8:30 is too high of an expectation when they end up running 3:56, 4:00, 4:01, and 4:01. It MAY be a little higher than what the juniors were capable of, but I think it was still a good goal. Honestly, I think if Leo hadn't been sick, and the pacing at Arcadia was a little better, there would have been at least 3 under 8:33. We'll never know, but their season was still an unmatched success, and I think anyone who follows the sport is expecting Leo, Lex, and Aaron to be breaking records next year.
My point was more that if they had focused on the 2 mile after April instead of doing 800s/miles/5k, they may have run more like 8:31 (or in Colin's case, 8:25). Since they ran performances that were close to worth 8:30, I don't think 8:30 was an unrealistic goal.

So you are saying their 1600s are a better comparison to the 3200 than the time they all ran 3200s?

It was trying to run fast times in Jan/Feb that screwed them for outdoors. No reason for that. They live in southern CA, ffs!
Should've been working on their threshold for 8-10 weeks before racing season (which could’ve included destroying some CA state meet records).
I think that since their times got better later in the season, they probably could have run a better 2 mile if they'd done it later in the season. I don't think that's a hot take lol
