Some girls who are stars that young get slower, others stay the same and the lucky ones keep getting faster. Other teams change dramatically year to year. Winning two years ago and looking good in local meets this year doesn’t mean you can just call it another championship by default. There is no “champions until someone beats us” aspect to year over year HS XC.
The more I think about it, the more baffled I am that a team that legit has a good shot at a national title doesn’t go do it at the best opportunity made available to them. Tullyrunners potentially saying they have the best speed ratings is nice, but not the same.
I have no vested interest in Running Lane. Our local kids did NXR and Eastbay, but they aren’t close to winning a national championship,
