D3 winner ran 13:58 today. And keep in mind that you are talking about 8k. NP only runs 60MPW.
Newbury Park's top 4 could all run sub 13:58 on a track right now. So basically they'd go 1-4 at D3 nationals.

Alex Phillip ran sub 14 on an indoor track after peaking for nationals 2 weeks ago. He also wasn’t training for a 5km. How does this indicate to you that they’d go 1-4 at nats?

Uh, you missed a whole thread. This isn’t page 1.
Ok, here you go- these young guys are so amazingly great they could possibly win a race against good non-scholarship athletes a few years older who weren’t nearly as fast as them in high school. And they are the best HS xc team of all time and they are getting faster and aren’t done yet. And PP is so good that it’s an interesting question.

NP ran 14:03, 14:05, 14:05, and 14:14 on GRASS. That's at least a 30 second conversion to a track. Phillip was in superspikes, on a 300m track, with rabbits.
The D1 guys had no problem running a fast 5k and they were 2 weeks off of training for a 10k. You don't hear them crying about not being ready for a 5k. If you are ready for a fast 10k you are ready for a fast 5k.
4:40 pace for an 8k would feel like an easy tempo to NP. They ran 4:29 first mile and ran the last mile in 4:23...on grass.

Lol. On a short course that was literally steamrolled. They would be lucky to run the same time on an outside track.

23:20 would be an easy tempo, so probably 22:50 is realistic, but it’s on grass, so maybe 22:25 on a track, which is worth 13:36 and 28:18 10k. Awesome!
