Love Nick and hope he gets his goal of 2:45. I was inspired by his sub 3.

Can we do a fund raiser for fat Nick? He can’t even afford a t-shirt. Poor hobo.

I hate you. Your argument is null.
I'm pretty sure Hunter is sauced outta the eyeballs as well.
he bandit ran a marathon that was downhill, but has no data backing it up. I believe Hunter McIntyre also did this even same fashion
Its kinda like how they never run like a track 1500 or 5k in the Crossfit games. It's always some random distance on an unmarked course where you just take their word for it being xxx long
That pic in the OP is deceiving. He is huge but in that pic I think he just finished 3 set of 100 pushups. As for 2:50, possible if he shows up much smaller than that picture and he will. His weight?
For a 2:50 Marathon you need to have a 10k time around sub 37. Half Marathon 1:22.
I am not sure if this chunk of meat can be that fast.
I admire his business and all what he is doing. But it seems a bit dangerous to me to base the success of his products on the races he does. What happens if he is not succeeding?
We all know that will happen. It happened to us before as well. Running does not have just one trajectory.

His minions will eat up anything. If he said his goal was to break the world record in the spring they would believe him.
Don't know who is the bigger loser in running right now, Houlihan or this nobody.
It's you. You're the biggest loser.
Wow! Sub 2:50 would almost get him out of "hobby jogger" territory. I don't know who Nicolas Berry is, but consider me inspired.

I think because:
1. There are a lot of people working normal, regular jobs who are running 2:45 and don't need to make a Youtube video series about it. Youtubers, influencers, etc are seen as shameless and selfish and not having real jobs and I know older generations tend to look down on that (I'm "Gen X" FWIW).
2. If it's a non-professional runner (someone who is not world class, an NCAA champ, an Olympian, or whatever) nobody takes any of their running endeavors seriously. In fact, they believe they are looking down on the sport that they spend so much time obsessing about. It's kind of like you rolling up to a golf course, never playing golf before, and telling everyone at the country club that YOU will be winning the tournament next summer. That kind of boastfulness and brash behavior isn't really taken well.
If people want to set goals, make videos, self protein powder, I really don't see the harm in it. It's quite easy to ignore. Just get off social media and Youtube and these people disappear. I hadn't even heard of Nick Bare until today.

Nick is absolutely yoked
Honest question: is "yoked" considered a popular term in the gay community?
I am not judging or being homophobic. I am just curious and asking based on the way some men use the word.
I think it is simpler than that. Because Letsrun posters seem to hate on just about anyone. Even athletes at the highest levels that have much more put into the sport than they do. I think the reason they jump on this message board to publicly bash others is because they have some deficiency in their own lives. It allows them to live a pretend life where they are far more successful and wiser than they reality would reveal.
Will a sub 2:50 get him to the Olympic Qualifier?

And I find this so odd. Running was not my first love or my best sport. My best sport was actually football, but I had such great admiration for the guys who played my position at the top level that I would never criticize them. If you know how tough it is, you just understand. Some people are given a gift, and when they work at this gift, they naturally are going to be better than most others...and dominate. If you give your all and you didn't succeed, you should not feel ashamed or envious of others. Even the elite runners have limits and they all don't make the Olympic team.
I distinctly remember when Alan Webb (quite the target here) came back to the Armory (I think)? to run one last mile race as a swan song and he came in at 4:06 or 4:10 or something and people were all over his case and talking about how bad he ran. I don't remember anyone criticizing Jordan for scoring just 15 points in his final game, but somehow we held Alan Webb to some higher standard and expected him to run 3:49 or something?
well most of the webb and other runner bashing can be chalked up to anonymity and general internet toxicity. but also i think that's partially a consequence of the fact that most of our elites hardly ever race. what are there, like 80 games in an NBA season? whereas you could be a 1500 runner doing a full indoor and diamond league season and race maybe 20 times including prelims. so when they do step on the line we want to see big things.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him go sub 2:50. He just did a 30 miler this weekend. He's got a couple of marathons under his belt. Not exactly unheard of given previous results.
Why is he a big deal? I live in town where business based and run some of same trails. Seems to be a nice guy and savvy social media guy. Often on town square during market days doing meet and greets.
Remember its also Texas where there is a use fetishization of the military. Combine all of that and you have a decent fan base even if its in the time range most of us ran/could run at this age.
As for being natural... I would be very very surprised if this was just hard work and protein powder.

I usually agree with you Steve, especially on the China Virus. But I have to disagree on this subject. Nick is absolutely yoked and is the head guy of a 7 figure per year business. Him crushing a sub 2:50 is a lot more impressive than an ex D1 runner in a cubical.
What's a "cubical"?
Isn't this the same guy who posted a '5000m' track time trial on YouTube then clearly stops about 60m short because his Garmin told him that was 5k...
Not sure why post deleted but:
I live in the town where his business is based. Seems like a nice enough guy and certainly very social media savvy. On market days his company has a tent and I've seen him taking photos with folks (taller than I would have thought).
Add that together with the fetishization of the military (especially here in Texas) and you've got oversized interest in a (hoping to be) 2:50 guy.
He did do a 30 miler this weekend at a decent clip indicating he's got the endurance.
