If we handled the initial COVID outbreak better, they’d be less dead Americans.
As the virus spreads, it mutates and can makes vaccines less effective eg. initial COVID vs delta variant
The virus is less likely to mutate as people social distance and mask AND get vaccinated.
Unfortunately, not everyone will mask, social distance and get vaccinated and in many poor countries, they don’t have the option to vaccinate. So, everyone needs to try to stop the spread.
having stated the above, vaccinations still appear to do their job of decreasing infection and reducing hospitalization and death for the vaccinated.
The way things are going, it seems inevitable (due to anti vaxxers and anti mask), the old and people with underlying health conditions will die in America ( eg. mostly fat and old) . And if the virus mutates enough, it may impact the young and normally healthy.
Until it gets bad enough, I doubt we will have true world wide lockdowns to stamp out the virus.
