Now that the tommies are gone, the conference is finally up for grabs. Gusties lose their short stick in Rooney and the oles are returning with maybe the best distance squad in the conference. Will the peoples champ of the MIAC, munihir, bring the cobbers honor, or will the Johnnie's return with a vengeance and a sprint squad. Only time will tell. Hopefully the Carl's bring the heat to the oles on the distance side. Find out next time on dragon ball Z!!!!

***These rankings will definitely be different if we factor in times/PRs from this cross country season.
Should be exciting to see how the distance guys will shake up the scoring and team finish. But, here are my prediction for the teams at conference:
1. Carleton
2. Bethel
3. St Johns
4. St. Olaf
5. Concordia
6. Gustavus
7. Macalester
8. Augsburg
9. Hamline
10. St. Mary
I must have forgotten to include St. Scholastica they could easily be a top 5 team in track. Calvin Boone with 24:57 8k, 3:54 1500 and lars Dewall with 25:15 8k should be in the mix for the mile, 3k, 5k
1. Johnnies
2. A pretty sizeable gap
3. Everybody else in no particular order
You didn't covert the 1500m.
Kosche ran 3:53, so that converts around 4:10. Cassidy ran the equivalent of 4:14, Massinari 4:17. Munir ran the equivalent of a 4:12, but I really hope to see him attack the longer distances after his Nationals race. Grand and Young are both around 4:13. The mile could be really strong this year.
For some reason the Oles ran an outdoor 3K last Spring. Curtis ran 8:42 and Kelly 8:50. I heard they did a 3200 Time Trial before Regionals with several running faster than that. I thought it was dumb, but they outperformed expectations at Nationals by a bit.
Scholastica has Ryan Steger - a 800m National Qualifier listed as a JR last year. Anyone know if he will be returning? They have some solid sprints/jumps guys too.
Carleton and St. Olaf have nothing to speak of outside their distance squad so they have no shot at winning. The Johnnies win the others fighting for relevancy. I'll pick Bethel over Gustavus because they are coached by an Olympian and the Gusties can't count on DuMoulin to score all their points.
1. St. John's
2. Bethel
3. Gustavus
4. Concordia
5. Carleton
6. St. Scholastica
7. St. Olaf
8. St. Mary's
9. Macalester
10. Hamline
11. Augsburg
Ryan has graduated, not competing.
Seconding this. I think the conference has the potential to put together one of the best mile fields in a while. Olaf vs. Johnnies duel will be good. Kosche/Cassidy vs. Grand/Young/Allen is solid. Throw Munir, and maybe Sather and a rando Gustie in and you have a solid final.
Best in a while? Are you counting the fake indoor season only a few teams did last year? The Mile has traditionally been very strong.
Hard to ask for better than the four national qualifiers (minus Wilkinson who was ranked 3) in 2020. Or the three national qualifiers in 2019 (minus MIAC Champ Mueller ranked 12th). Interestingly, 2019 may have been the worst year for the MIAC in recent memory with only two qualifiers including the 3rd and 10th placers. And of course, the years before that were very MIAC heavy on the national scene with the Olaf guys, Cook-Gallardo, etc.
Shout out to Wilkinson btw for 72nd place at D1 nationals. Wonder if he could go all american next year
Who's racing this weekend? Looks like the Cobbers opened, but distance men sat. They brought in a great freshman class including a stud jumper that should win high jump and another that will be one of the top long jumpers. They have the best distance runners in Munir and Middendorf who will win whatever event they run. Let's not forget two of the better throwers in the country.
Bocovich and Boone in the 5k at Mankato
The Oles continue the tradition of two guys you’ve never heard of running fast enough to pop on letsrun and puff their chests, but not running fast enough to actually score.
Surprised Boone was so far off Bocovich. Must be ski season already
High hopes after a relatively weak mile field last year
OLES DODGE BULLET AS ST. THOMAS OPENER CANCELLED
The mood was relieved at st. olaf after the oles' planned st. thomas meet was cancelled due to snow, preventing them from racing. The quack shack echoed with "that was a close one"s and "that was almost a disaster"s when news of the cancellation arrived. In an interview, Coach Brian Power had this to say: "Yeah, the weather really bailed us out this time. We were about to peak a month before the start of the season, but now with no meet we won't have the chance to. Catastrophe averted. Hopefully this means we can peak around Christmas and still have some residual fitness lying around for the actual season."
Augsburg at 11? Stop sleeping on Augsburg lmao
Looks like Boone had a better race this week, beating a couple UMD guys in 4:22.
He did run 3:54 last year. Wonder when he'll shut down for ski season?
Heard from a buddy that he quit skiing and is going to run the full indoor season instead
Surprised that none of the previous posts have mentioned Carleton's Oscar Christoph who followed the Ole's XC training plan last summer and, after a fall of nursing the injuries caused by such reckless workouts, is now in excellent shape for the 100 and 200. He should easily be able to run in the mid to high 9 second range but has been held back in previous seasons by the officials not letting him deadlift four plates on the line as warmup and Dave Ricks prohibiting him race from racing in slides. Christoph will certainly be a force to be reckoned in the shorter distances.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
