Bonking is a strategic miscalculation and it’s dangerous to get there, leave alone try to push through it. Sad as it may be, it’s sending the wrong message to praise such crawl finishes as brave. They’re unfortunate and great runners may be vulnerable to miscalculation on a bad day, but let’s leave it at that.
Agree with this. It’s downright negligent for race management and medical to allow someone to continue to “compete” when he/she has hit the deck and starts to crawl and wobble forward in a delirious state. You see this in Japan racing quite often and it’s ridiculous. The idea of encouraging these athletes along is gruesome. The athlete should get medical care immediately when this happens. Anything less is akin to letting a fighter go another round after getting knocked out cold. Quit encouraging this and making it out like the athlete is tough to finish. Honestly, the athlete is in no state of mind at that point to be making any decisions. This really needs to stop.
Relieved Teare is going to be fine (hopefully).
