NM actually ran better vs NC State than they did at Nuttycombe getting their top runner closer to Chmiel and holding the 18 sec 1-5 spread. But NC St got Steelman into their lineup and Hays ran much better than she did at Nuttycombe, and Bush improved as well. BYU got the improved Camp and of course Whittni Orton into their lineup. CO times in the pre Nats were basically flat with what they did Saturday, so they did not improve as the other 3 did.
I was curious if part of NC State winning was BYU having an off day with the NC State 5th runner beating BYU's 3rd, 4th and 5th runner. In the 2020 championship BYU had a 30 second spread from Camp to their 5th runner. In the 2021 championship they held that same spread at 32 seconds (with Camp now being the 2nd runner) so one could argue the team ran the same, except had a healthy Orton as the winner vs her 17th place finish in the 2020 championship. And, Camp, Lee and Musselman all ran about 50 seconds faster in FL than they did at OSU - which was a popular time drop - for example Chmiel, Hasz, Heymach, and Magness all ran about 50 seconds faster. The one excpetion was Frentheway who only ran about 40 seconds faster. But, Chelengat and Roe only ran about 30 seconds faster - so perhaps the 2020 race was just a very good performance by them, and Frentheway. Nevertheless, even if you move Frentheway up 10 seconds, or 16 places, BYU still scores 106 points or well above NC State's 84, even having Orton at full strength. So BYU seemed to run well, but NC State was just better.
And yes, I have some time on my hands.
NC state was just way better than last year.... Sam bush and their transfer, forget name?, just stepped up.... they were both 70+, last year, now 20 and 30... that's huge difference.... tuohy and chmiel better tooo.... steel man still way good enough.... but it was really bush and the transfer that made big difference
When r they running winter track? Anyone know the schedule? That 854 was around 10th best all time ncaa... good analysis on YouTube of race some flotrack guy....

The schedule is online. Penn Relays this year, and no West Coast Relays.
