Also guys for anyone that's interested I'm almost possible that Katelyn Tuohy did not fall at cross-country championships
Yes she fell back to 47th at one point but she was only half a second back from her teammates and three seconds back from the lead so she didn't actually fall back much in terms of time
It's just that so many Runners were bunched together to go from 10th place to 50th place only a second difference
I watch the race again pretty closely and she started out as the last n.c. State Runner and maintain that position for the first third of the race. So there was no point where she really lost much time or could have fell
If she did fall she would have been farther off the pace and would have been in like a 100 or a 1 50th place
Anyway if she did fall it would have had to been an incredibly seamless fall and then rise up where she only lost like a quarter of a second. Which is basically impossible especially on a course that is actually pretty dangerous to be falling on with the composition. It's not like it's Lush grass, to fall on those trails and shells would probably be kind of rough
So just in case anyone is interested I think somehow the telephone game got played out where she fell back a little bit like half a second from her teammates and that got translated into she fell to the ground
I disagree. I watched fairly closely as well, and I actually believe you can see where she either fell or stumbled. At the 1.1K mark, she is on the outside with her other teammates...she is furthest to the left. At 3:40 she is running slightly behind Bush (I believe) and then a second later disappears (as I believe the runner directly behind her does as well). Another runner comes in front and blocks the view though, and the camera starts to get blurry. But Tuohy doesn't appear to be beside or behind her teammates immediately after that.
At the 1.7k mark, you can see Tuohy working her way back to the front along the outside to pass others. At one point (around 5:34) you see her clearly go far outside to pass....if you look across, she probably still has 70 runners in front of her.
So to get back to 47th at 2k she had to be coming back hard.
Looking at her splits, it would almost appear nothing happened...but I have no doubt that she did fall and had to make her way back up. That's quite impressive on her part.
