NCAA Predicted Women's Individual top 10

Julia heymach will be top 5.

Part 3

Southeast - Kelsey and Katelyn go 1-2, possibly the most dominant 1-2 punch in the country (maybe Chelangat and Asekol). Kelsey is maintaining an 8 ish second gap on Katelyn, and has been one of the most consistent runners this year. Her only losses have come to McCabe, Asekol, and Chelangat, and her kick looks stronger than ever. I expect her to contend in the top 5. Katelyn Tuohy also looks really strong, competing for a top ten placement at nationals. Sam Bush and Allie Hays both look to be in all American conversation as well. Bethany Graham looks to be a rising star at Furman, and Cali Doan of Liberty did well, although I am surprised Adelyn Ackely didn't place higher. I also thought Brynn Brown would place better than 13th after 6th at ACCs and taking down Vestri earlier in the season. Hopefully we see Steelman at nationals, and there's a slim slim chance Marlee will be there too.

West - Stanford after some troubling early season meets really seemed to rebound here, putting 4 in the top ten. Julia Heymach took the individual win after placing 25th at PAC 12, indicating she's getting back to her fitness. She is a 4:04 1500 and 15:33 5k runner, so she will be a threat on the national scene. I had never heard of Ruby Smee until this season, but second at regionals and West coast conference makes her my sleeper pick for top ten at nationals. She was 7 seconds behind Heymach at 5k and narrowly lost to her by tenths of seconds by the finish. Herberg farther back than expected. Dudek Jenks and Aragon running really well, although Dudek is not quite as fit as her freshman year pre injury. really strong run for Kristin Garcia.

agree mostly with this list, with a couple minor changes. Joy Chirchir didn't make nationals (21st at regionals and no team qualification) so no longer ranked in top 25. I would put Alison Pray more in the 15 range, Wolfgram surely ran exceptional at regionals but besides regionals her other results aren't indicative of a top ten performance (12th roy griak 9th mountain west). Abby Nichols should be higher after winning Pre Nats, Pac 12s, and finishing third at regionals. should contend in the top ten. Amanda Vestri third at ACC and dominating the northeast region should also be higher, and I think Hannah Steelman should be in the 15 ish range.

Don’t read too much into regional performances. The best teams and individuals were absolutely saving it for next week. Best predictor of nationals is Nutty and Prenats followed by conference meets. The teams and individuals that needed to run hard to qualify spent it in the regionals. The top 6-8 teams were cruising.

also, she would have to earn her spot on the team first, i dont think shes faster than nc state's 7, time away from distance running and races does not make her faster nor better .. its been 2 years of just hanging out w the team

Spoken with conviction because she was a stud in track last spring and did nothing this fall until the regionals 3 days ago.

watch adidas xc, nuttycomb, and acc race finishes, in those races, katelyn tuohy looked way too relaxed and not giving it her all, i remember seeing her and kelsey at the last 400 in accs, kelsey was going at it and katelyn was just behind her looking at her watch, just cruising ...

im quite excited to see what she can accomplish in an all-out effort

Again, i fully agree that Starliper likely is not running...even if she has been training, very doubtful she is in race shape - nor would they consider burning the year.... But if /when she gets healthy, she will certainly be a top 5 runner on this team.

Last year was a really tough course and this year is a pretty easy one, how much faster do you think it's running compared to last year... anyway I think logue spent it all at regionals for that win won't be top 15.... Orton won't be top 5, she hant run an impressive race since 5k last april been down hill since that 1513, or whatever, probably dealing with injuries same with Steelman....

I agree with your comments regarding Steelman and Orton. They are the biggest unknowns among the top women. Logue didn’t spend it all in regionals but did spend more than needed. I think the national course differences are big. Advantage Kiptoo over Mantz. Women’s course probably 30-45 sec faster in FL. Crushed oyster shell stretches will favor track runners vs “mudders”. Lessens the advantage of the altitude strength teams like CU.

starliper is not fully healthy, she has not been training with the team either,

hiding cards? NC STATE AND COACH HENES DOES NOT DO IT THAT WAY, if you want to run championships, you need to earn your spot, just what seniors savannah shaw and clairmonte is doing right now (they are trying to earn a spot on the championship team)

You don’t get it! And you don’t know as much as you think you do. You should take a look in the mirror before calling people fanboys when you are the one who starts entire threads on Tuohy.

Starliper is one of the great talents to come out of HS and if she is at 80% she is better than their 6 and 7 runners on the team. They are running for a title this weekend and they will put in their best lineup possible even if Starliper is not in 100% race shape. Obviously they are considering it since she was on the regionals list.

And it is plain out disrespectful to think she is not working as hard as everyone else on the team to get on the line. Your favorite runner (Tuohy) was not 100% at Nationals last year but look what she did…… her 24th finish was the reason the team got 2nd. Clairmonte was at best 80% but was their 5th at Nationals which also lead to the runner up finish. She was their number one runner before she got sick and injured. Should Coach Henes have not left Tuohy and Dominique run since they were not 100% and put in runners that were working hard all season???? No. She put in what she thought was their best chance of winning. And I’m sure Tuohy and Dominique were not just sitting on the couch! Don’t you realize that rehabbing and cross training is one of the hardest physical and mental battles a runner can go through? If you know anything about running you would know this to be true.

So nobody knows if Starliper is going to run, but if you are a NC State fan as you proclaim, you should stop all the Starliper bashing and hope she is doing well and if she can help the team in anyway, you should be happy about that.

So silly continuing this discussion. There are 3 NC State runners in the conversation for top ten. Chimiel, Touhy and Steelman. That is it.

I think tuohy was looking at her watch cuz she was getting tired.... I think she has been giving the same effort that Kelsey Camille and the other Runners around her have. In other words I don't think she's holding back and has more in the tank

It's a fast course so that might help her a little, but at best she is like a 9 or 10, and I say probably like 12 or 13, but I don't think there's any chance she can get down to top 5. Same with Steelman but she has like no chance to even crack the top 10....
