Although New River is correct(I know for a fact), it isn’t right for them to spread info about these coaches if they don’t have first hand experience with these people.
Does anyone know what's going on at UCSD? Job was originally posted in April, and now they've extended the application deadline multiple times. Are they not getting quality applicants, or are they getting turned down repeatedly? The salary range does seem low with the cost of living in SD, but otherwise it seems like it should be a pretty good job at a great school.
Believe it or not, there are many college coaches that really enjoy coaching that don’t care much about salary or ego. We do it because we love the sport and the challenge. I started out making $5K a year and was loving life coaching. Do not care what anyone thinks of my ability. I enjoy helping my athletes reach new levels of success. Thats my “Pay” and motivation. I make enough to live a good life (Under $40K) and could care less about ego’s.
What a nice story. Just because you are able to make it work on such a low wage doesn't mean that 1) that requesting pay for work is any indicator of ego or motivation. Stop with that "noble suffering" nonsense and 2) realize that the low pay IS a barrier for a lot of people to get into coaching at all, thus contributing to diversity issues in the field.
Why talk about other coaches like this? All these posts say I hear. So you are spreading rumors and tarnishing a persons name! Just stop. You left elementary school years ago.

sdasfrear, shut the hell up you have no right to tell people what to post about, if it hurts your feelings move on. You’re probably one of these coaches they’re talking about. Shouldn’t a Head Coach not post on letsrun?
Too little pay to get someone to take that job. 80k originally. possibly 100k now. Live on the street for that...
Also, they expect you to keep the Head CC Coach - which tells you they haven't interviewed any distance coach. Which is the most likely event group to thrive in that environment. (High academic, expensive, minimal scholarships, no academic scholarships)
Jealous of Bovee? Come on. If a dude, year in and year out, negatively effects athletes and coaches, they get some grief. People only gab when more assistants leave. With a few coaches out there...that simply happens yearly.
