Who would risk coaching in this environment esp if a volunteer coach; which most are in the Uk.

No, that doesn't mean allegations like this should be investigated.

I read one article suggesting Cathy Freeman was still at school when Bideau (then 30) and she got together. Not sure that he's the right barometer for whether something is ok or not.

Seems that all aware of this; why then did uka carry on using him. Are UKA in trouble?

Worst kept secret in the sport. Why do you think he left the college world? Just one of many. There are many more predators out there. Most of the knowledgeable folks in the sport know who these people are but are too chicken to name them. A bunch of them have high paying jobs. I would say their day is coming soon though.

This is an issue being investigated at Oregon in Title IX investigation of Robert Johnson. His “athletes” or “girl” of the year. Safe Sport reportedly asking questions of former athletes now too. For years this was something where administrators looked the other way but no more as too many lawsuits costing athletic departments too much money forcing their hand.

Kinda torn on what to think about this… its really messed up that he found out he was getting accused in the media, and that the media at the same time has no clear accusations. At the very least, if youre going to publicly discipline someone and threaten athletes who continue to work with him with losing funding, you have to say what the reason is.

Clearly this man knows what he has or hasn’t done so he can’t act shocked but in order for him to have gotten immediately slapped so hard with sanctions, it means a former athlete or coworker must have accused of unwanted sexual conduct.. not just talkingabout stuff but stuff like coercion due to status as coach etc.. (the entire reason why its against (hopefully all) college rules to date your coach).

As soon as there is a hint of wrong doing the authorities have to act and suspend.

It will go further in that the authorities will have a duty to go looking and checking and anything remotely suspicious they will have to act.

There will soon be more lookers and checkers and suspended than there are those actually doing their jobs.

If this was a business model it would scream “ stop ; get out”.
