"Oh, and not only are sub-13:30 types not breaking 11.00 FAT, they’re not breaking 12.00 FAT. Very few are breaking 13.00 FAT, and even then, only just. And only maybe. And only guys like Bekele."
I love Bekele. When he talks about an 11-second 100m, he is talking out his azz, because he is talking about a flying 100m. And even then, he's not sure.
In the real world of 100m, that means 11.80-12.20--and that's still SMOKING fast for one of these guys, which is why he was likely one of the very fastest.
I always feel like I am discussing these things with people who have never tried them, and therefore have no appreciation of what it takes--either the 100m, or the 5k. There is only a handful of guys in the world like me, who have gone sub-10.5, who actually have tried their hand at 5k, and who enjoy training distance. Btw I was nowhere near as fast over distance when I was fast at sprints. They are MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE. And 10.5 FAT is a fast sprint.
Know what? 11.00 FAT is a fast sprint, that would blow the doors off any sub-13:30 athlete.
And, scoreboard. I nailed it with Farah, read the thread. Everybody else thought they knew, and were proven wrong.
Go out and do a FAT 100m, and we'll talk.
