I'm literally 4 inches shorter than my dad which makes no sense because my mom is average height. I do take after her side of the family though.
Classic Statistics: "Sir Francis Galton (1885) introduced the idea of “regression” to the research community in a study examining the relationship of fathers' and sons' heights. In his study he observed that sons do not tend toward their fathers' heights but instead “regress to” the mean of the population." (Google)

Dad: 6 foot 3
Mom: 5 foot 3

Me: 6 ft
Dad: 5' 10"
Mom: 5' 7"
My two sons
1) 6' 4"

I'm 5'7" barefoot. My parents were 5'3, 4'11"? I'm not originally from around these parts, so American nutrition did wonders for me.
I'm 5'9"
Mom 5'6"
Dad 5'8"
According to google average height in USA is 5'4" for women, 5'9" for men. I imagine this is slightly increasing over time, in a couple more decades it will probably be 5'5" for women and 5'10" for men.

I suck at running but am a halfway decent swimmer. Can I blame my height instead of my lack of commitment to running?
There are a lot of good to great female 100m dash/pole vault/high jump athletes about 5'10".
me: 5'-9", father 6'-0", mother 5'-0". Probably would've been taller except for being confined to bed for a year with heart disease as a child.

Father 5-10, mother 5-7.
Inherited a few things from elsewhere along the bloodline, including losing my hair. But I'm 6-2, so I'll take that trade.
