well, those vaporfly next %2 have been around for ages now... so arguing it's the shoes is just silly...

Care to tell us what her "preparation" consisted of?
Love Gidey. 😍What’s debut! Glad she found her calling in the half. She’s an amazing runner but doesn’t have much of a final kick, which is why she can run WR times in 5K and 10K with pacing but loses to Hassan in a race.

To answer Rojo's question, is this the greatest performance ever? Bolt's 9:58 and Warholm's WR both score higher than Gidey's HM. I tend to think endurance performances are more impressive but I'm biased.
The only comparable performance is Radcliffe's 2:15. I still rate Radcliffe's higher - in both cases, the had male pacers almost to the finish. But Radcliffe did it in big standard racing flats. In Vaporfly's, her 2:15 becomes 2:12-2:13.
I'm hesitant to predict anything for Gidey in the full marathon. She looks awesome but we need to see if she is just an awesome threshold runner, she could be another Tadese. It's all speculation for now, but my guess is she debuts in 2:16-2:17 rather than anything crazy. The marathon still needs special respect.
2.15 is nowhere comparable to a 1.02 half for a woman. Looking at the men's times the relativity is closer to 2.10.

My recap is done. I'm going back to bed. I told the guys waking up now to make that woman a black page. Wow.

Another way to think about this. No American woman has ever run a 10k at this pace (and not even close to it). Can you think of any other distance race where the world record is run at a faster pace than the American record over half the distance? Answer - only the women's marathon, but that one was closer
How many American men can run that right now?

WA scoring has it as 2:11.16 for the marathon. I don't think any woman will ever be capable of that. Also, the points tables were calculated pre-supershoes which are easily worth 2-3 minutes for a women's marathon. It's hard to compare across events that are so different
Make her run it in asics gel nimbus and then we'll talk.
Incredible! 2:0X coming soon!
If she runs Chicago and is in the huge '2:10 or bust pack' of American men she will obliterate the record.
She's is such shape that she basically needs to go in the open race in anything she enters on the roads
Not even believably legit. So many runners on the sauce these days. Give me a break this sport is like the Tour de France in the Armstrong heyday.

Over 1 minute WR! Her 15K split was only a few seconds off her 15K best! Women's HM has to be the biggest development in the supershoe era.
Holy moly that's unreal. It's exciting to think about what the future holds but I'm just enjoying this performance for now.

Serious question, does the US have any male half/full marathoners that can even be considered elite outside of Rupp at this point?
Many stupid things been said here!!!!!
1) It s all about the shoes !!!nothing can be more wrong and stupid than this. From track to road Gidey destroyed every record from 5000 to half marathon. The shoes gain is very very little more has to do with the comfort but not with a real gain probably just few seconds. Because if it would be like this everybody would break records national ,personal, world. While only few special runners continue to destroy world records , the more talented ones. Kipchoge , Gidey, Cheptegei, Hassan, Kosgei, Jepkosgei, Peres Chepchirchir, and anyway those big jumps in performance are always by East Africans. After super shoes I dont see any big jump in the performance by europeans or americans runners. So here all these athletes share the same thing an incredible talent thats out of question!!!! Just watching Letesembet Gidey running on the streets of Valencia is one the most beautiful thing you can see watching an human being running. Perfection , harmony, relaxation at a brutal speed of 2'58/km. and yes this the greatest performance ever in running!!!! This performance is so other wordly and so great and Gidey so perfect and beautiful that makes any talk about doping be irrilevant..........
2) Raddcliffe 2:15 is nowhere near to Gidey 1:02:52. The latter is a lot more stronger
Does Adam Clarke from the UK consider himself to be a professional runner?
I wonder how he feels right now. Probably happy that he ran a PB today (1:02:59), but unfortunately..,
Sifan Hassan better watch out. Looks like Giday is going to snatch that 10000m crown right back. Sparks are going to fly the next time these two athletes meet.
This is just terrible for the sport. How many clean athletes see this and ask themselves what’s the point in trying to get to that level except by cheating?
Doesn't Gidey now own the world record at 5000m, 10000m, 15k, and half marathon? Has that ever been done before? And what a series of records! 5000m-14:06, 10000m-29:01; 15k-44:20 (this was at "7 Hills!"; today 44:29 enroute!); half marathon-1:02:52. Who can doubt that she will add the marathon to the list?
The shoes account for minutes but they do not account for her margin over her competition in super shoes. Any NN runner is highly suspect for doping. But she's the best ever by far in time trials all things considered.

Specifically which clean athletes are you referring to ?
