Psychoactive substances like MDMA (Ecstasy, Molly) and psilocybin (magic mushrooms) are being used today to help enhance relationships and foster empathetic human connection. What are the ethical implications of chemically modifying our relationships in this way?
Lots of interesting questions in this podcast.
A slightly altered question from one in the video: Suppose a drug was developed for another purpose but it was found that it could be used to make gay men to become heterosexual. Would it be ethical for a doctor to re-purpose it and prescribe it to religious men who are gay where being gay is against their doctrine?
Would your answer depend on if the drug had to be taken daily or the guy would return to his natural state and be gay again or if he took it one time and he would be permanently become hetero?
If your answer is yes, a doctor should prescribe because people should be able to control their own body and do whatever they want, suppose this case: A man who seems rational except he has completely fallen for Madison de Rozario who is the gorgeous woman who won the wheelchair division in the Paralympics marathon.
He has a misguided belief that if a doctor removes his legs he would be able to bond with Madison and then date her. Would it be ethical for a doctor to remove his legs?
