Wanting to join the Air Force as an officer, yet I use a LOT of weed... I stopped yesterday. For anyone who was in the military recently, how long does it take to start the process and then eventually be drug tested?
thanks

I beleive I didnt even take a single drug test at MEPS and that was around Sept. Went to basic in late Nov, took a drug test probably 2 weeks in. We were made to chug water all morning, get on a bus, then piss at a testing facility.
By the time everyone got off the bus, they were basically pissing themselves. There was no way anyone was going to fail because the samples were very dilluted.
This was enlisted, the officer track may be a different timeline.
The last thing the military wants is to kick someone out for weed at this point.
If you don't have any charges and can pass a UA, just don't snitch on yourself.
Be honest on your Clearance paperwork though. Just because you smoked doesn't mean you won't get an adjudication. Much worse if you smoke, lie about it, and one of your contacts tells them you smoked. Big problems at that point.
I admitted to smoking and got adjudicated for a TS.
Future airman, if you cannot stand up to this pressure, what if you are, in the not so distant future assigned to a low flying C-130 gunship, aircraft gets shot down and you are taken in as a P.O.W. Are you going to get scared and start talking? Management in U.S. Air Force are not your Imam, Priest or Rabbi. No confessions. What ever is your story, stick to it all the way to last cigarette, blindfolded and seven man firing squad!
Pretty sure Mariquana disqualifies one from the military at least it did in the early 1970's and they are an institution that is heavy in tradition meaning nothing changes except standards get gradually higher every decade.
Here are the current standards to get into the Navy https://msigwarrior.com/pft-us-seal-team-six.html
If you ever want a security clearance, you’ll have to lie about drug use, but likely anyone that know you will be asked about your drug and alcohol use and sell you out. You’ll never get a clearance and be relegated to be a cook, a gym worker, or a administrative job.
