A race thats anywhere between 800m and 10k and the racers do not know the distance. Race could end after 2 laps...3 laps...etc.
Warning given with 200m left that the race will end.
An elimination 10k with 26 competitors. Last place gets eliminated each lap leaving only one athlete left.
3k blindfolded steeplechase.
The 200m two arm pump... it's a 200m but instead of moving/pumping each arm separately, they have to move together in sync. It would look ridiculous.
The chocolate cake long jump. It's where long jumpers have to see how many chocolate cakes they can jump over. If they touch a cake they get eliminated. Each round they add another cake.

a triathalon event where participants have to bench 225 lb, make a topic on letsrun.com then run a marathon in sub 3:07. But they aren't technically finished until the letsrun topic hits 3 pags of posts and they aren't allowed to double post, only reply to other posters. They may post from their phone to keep activity going on their thread while running the sub 3:07
Sounds like a great Canadian Triathlon to me. This will be a classic.
8,000m with primes at every 800m and hindmost runner dropped at the same spots. Start with 12 runners, ends with 3 fighting for the last 800m. Call it Crazy 8 or something like that.
The 150m. 200m is too far really but sometimes its nicer to do a longer distance sprint. 150m is a real nice distance.
A 5K where competitors would not be allowed to use the restroom for 48 hours prior to the start.
4 x 400m Hurdles
400m team pursuit - I like the pursuit race idea, but do it with 4-person teams; the race may take a while though

I would have the event performed a little bit differently, but this is the right idea.
The original pole vault at the time of Alexander the Great was done by scouts behind enemy lines: they would store a pole beside a stream and vault across it, pulling the pole with them.
Doing the event for height instead of distance makes for fan interest, but it is too dangerous and too artificial, if we consider track and field to be the original “martial art” (soldier skills). A strong argument can be made for replacing pole vaulting for height with pole vaulting for distance (over a water pit, perhaps)
Triple jump is not a soldier skill either, but where it comes from is actually very cool. Most people have no idea.
(I’m sure af not going to reveal it on a mere LR message board. Y’all are gonna have to wait for my article.)
4-man 4K relay:
One runner running at a time, coach and three bench runners on the infield.
Exchange zones same as the 4x100, but the only requirement is each runner runs at least once.
So you could just go 4x1000 or each runner does 400,300,300 and rests while the others go.
800m space hopper race.
Marathon hurdles. DQed if you knock over too many.
The Larry Rawsonrace:
Eight competitors are chosen at random from homes near a local high school track, and they go down to the local high school track and try to run a sub-60 400, as that's within reach of nearly everyone on earth according to many who post on LR.
The Mile Run.
It would be cool because people actually identify with the distance. Regular every day people know how far a mile is. Would be a nice way to market the sport instead of running off weird distances.
Flying 30m. Sprint 30m with running start. Would have to be 1 at a time.
Burrito Mile. Eat a burrito and run a mile.
Standing false start 100m. Each competitor is standing, official says “set” then any of the runners can start.
10000 meter steeplechase - imagine the carnage late in the races with epic falls. Would be the NASCAR of track racing.
Keep the same events, but have everything on a 500m track instead of a 400m one.
20 foot chainlink fence in the middle of the field, 50' diameter. Enter Harambe, Stoppit Smith and any other douche poster here. Pull the sliding floor doors open and release 2 tigers. First one out can keep posting here.
