Seconded. Added to all of this is the fact that the best exercise, is the exercise you can do consistently and what I found was I am far more likely to do pullups and pushups than suit up and go to the gym.
I do two sets of50 pushups (one morning, one night) on day 1, and two sets of five pullups (whenever I fit them in) on day two. Repeat. I let life get in the way probably once a week, to maybe miss a day or do only one set. So recovery is factored in.
And that's it. I've toyed with doing more but the fact is I can do the above day in, day out, week in, week out, month in month out and I've been doing it for almost two years now. I've never been injured from them or even felt a niggle.
My chest and triceps are toned. I'm not after more. I feel like I work out and I look like I work out. My lats are actually kinda big, but pullups lift the entire bodyweight so it's no surprise.
And the real kicker for me is this: 50 pushups take less than a minute. Five pullups about the same. So, all told I spend less than two minutes a day on chest, triceps, lats, traps, posterior and anterior deltoid and midsection.
That's totally fine with me, and what's more I can bang out 50 pushups or five pullups whenever I like, which to me counts are comfortably fit.
