this works for me:
lifting
zero or minimal sugar (in addition to generally eating clean, low carb)
no caffiene past noon
read before bed, not on phone
sometimes fall asleep to boring history books on tape
very dark and cool bedroom

Always have. I'm undergoing a sleep study in a couple weeks.
Instead of counting sheep try kicking dogs.
maybe you just don't need any sleep. Don't sweat it I regularly sleep 5hrs a night, no issues.

Greg,
Are you still eating too much sugar before bed? That can have the same effect as alcohol causing you to sleep poorly and wake up without falling back to sleep.
Sometimes. Last night I had cereal at about 1:30am.
I have a hard time going to sleep without drinking water too. I just feel too dehydrated.
The consequence is I usually wake one or two times during the night to pee.

Be curious to hear how it goes.

Maybe try sleeping with Depends and then you wouldn't have to worry about going to the bathroom to pee.
You must feel shame about something. What's bothering you?

I just read a couple of pages of my wife's PhD dissertation and I fall right asleep. Maybe if you read your script it might have the same effect?

I cut out using screens in the hour or two leading up to bedtime and it really helped, also this didn’t apply to me because I don’t drink alcohol but if you do try cut that out because it severely interrupts sleep in the second half of the night.
Also for me reading a book helps because I am thinking about the book rather than a million random things.

I can't sleep because I have to think about all the drug addicts which get such a bad treatment here and others are living the bum live in free housing.

Peeing once or twice during night is not unnormal. Nothing to worry about as long as you fall asleep soon after.
