most educated professional friends I have do this, often with their partners in which case it will be a fully bottle
they've been doing this for years and to my knowledge are in perfectly good health.
this is probably OK, yes?

Well it's a hell of a lot better than getting into the liquor every night. I prefer Howler Head whiskey.
Not a problem.
Actually wine is a carcinogen that rightly should have a warning label. But the wine industry blocked it.
Most people don't know that, they bought that it was healthy. Its not.
I like wine at dinner to, but drink only a small to medium wine glass.
Sorry to give you the truth.

I'll turn the eternal screw in here. One drop of alcohol is too much alcohol.
In moderation, it’s fine. I don’t do well with moderation, so I quit.
1/2 a bottle every night does show some dependency, even if it’s a mental dependency.
"Those who fear alcohol, are alcoholics." - Buckowski
"Drinking three bottles of wine per week, or about half a bottle per day, brought a cancer risk increase of 1.9% in men and 3.6% in women, or 19 in 1,000 men and 36 in 1,000 women. This is the same risk from smoking about eight cigarettes per week for men and 23 cigarettes per week for women."

It also needs to be accounted for that wine is fuggin gross.
Oh and wine is only for women.

+1
Late middle aged professional couples at the big box liquor store buying cases of wine. They've got to be drunk together every night.
Put down probably 8 to 9 bottles of the cheap trader joes wine a week and I would say Im in better shape than most men my age.
Not good. Cut down to 2 drinks per week and instead pour yourself a flight of three or four of 1-2 oz beers and a couple 1oz shots of wine. This gives you the benefits of the nutrients in each beverage plus the psychological satisfaction without the damage from excess alcohol

Yeah, it's problematic. Someone already correctly said that it's clearly a dependency for you, even if it's just a mental one. Lots of people drink more than they should. That shouldn't be your measuring stick about what is healthy or not. MOST Americans are too fat too. Doesn't mean you should do what they do.
Alcohol is a poison. Alcohol is a carcinogen. Technically you shouldn't drink a drop of it ever. Now, I'm not going to be that harsh, and even I do drink on very rare occasions, but regular systematic drinking is problematic, yes.
Everyone has vices. If their daily routine is to put back several glasses of wine, yes I would classify them as an alcoholic.
Maybe a 'functional' alcoholic if they are able to hold down a job. Maybe over the years they've developed tolerance where their body can withstand nightly alcohol consumption of this level.
Nevertheless it sounds like a lifestyle which is less healthy than a cup of tea per night.

The preferred term for alcoholic is now an "alcohol use disorder". And no, two glasses of wine a night is not an alcohol use disorder (AUD). People are free to point out that alcohol in any amount is not healthy, but they go to far trying to say you have an AUD. It's also unnecessary to go any further and doesn't add or help anything - it simply makes them look like idiots spouting off on something they know nothing about, especially when they could so easily sound less stupid with 5 minutes on internet reading.
I am in agreement that no amount of alcohol is good for you, but, we do not need to live a life of perfection. Where I live the health guidelines are no more than 15 drinks per week for men and no more than 10 drinks per week for women. I think that is a lot, but since you are under that amount, a doctor would say you are fine. So, you are likely fine, but, I would still recommend you cut back and not drink every day.
That's a six pack every day. That sounds alright for people in their 20s going out every night after work and then watching sports and hanging out on the weekend with buddies. But being drunk every night during quality time with the wife and family? Life can be better than that.
