A fully functioning pig organ in a human would be an amazing achievement in comparison to the already-impressive utilization of pig tissue for replacement heart valves.
It's been done before but one of the side effects was people would start grunting while eating, kind of embarrassing in restaurants.
^ People were being picky about that. It was less than 5% of people who go that side effect.
I know that they use pigs eyes to practice Lasik surgery on back in the late 90's. The pig was of course not alive and the eye had already been separated from the body. Apparently the cornea is similar to the human eye which why they selected a pig.
I read about inserting human DNA in pigs to grow human organs. It showed a human ear growing out of the back of a pig.
It sounded more advanced than today's achievement, actually.
