Any chance we can get three marathons in 2022? AR attempt in Tokyo, Worlds and then Chicago or NY?

That schedule would be great. He should be capable of 2:05 or even 2:04, but he's running out of time. I'd be good with Tokyo and then Chicago again so that he can have two shots at fast ones weather permitting. He turns 36 this spring, so his years are running short, he needs to go for the record as soon as possible.
Interesting how Emma Bates said in your interview yesterday that she wants to run worlds in Eugene next year but doesn’t know the selection criteria. And here we have Sims saying Rupp is running it. Presumably Rupp can assume he would be selected as inarguably the best American men’s marathoner off the past 4 years. How has the worlds team been selected in the past?
Does anyone know what the course will be? Can't seem to find anything on the official Eugene 2022 website.

Classic USATF
But I'd think Rupp and Seidel are pretty safe.
Unless someone does something earth shattering in NY, the women should probably be Seidel, Bates, Hall.
For the men, Rupp, Ryan Hall, and Seth James Demoor.

He won the trials last year, finished 8th in Sapporo, and ran within half a minute of his PB in poor conditions a few weeks ago. Asking him to do anymore to justify selection at this point is worthless. If he's not injured, he's the best American by a long way, literally like three quarters of a mile. Everyone else needs to run a selection race. Rupp has earned special treatment via performances
I think you'd also have to account for if Tuliamuk runs a strong HM/Marathon between December and March. I'd agree Rupp and Seidel should be pretty much locks.
Surely they wouldn't forget Zach Levet.

To be fair, all the agent said is that he plans to run it.

Rojo looking forward to as many opportunities as possible to root against Rupp.
Looks like another asterisk * will enter the record books.
Isn't it usually the three fastest that accept the invitation?

This is how the team was selected the last time.
The three (3) US athletes for the 2019 IAAF World Championships men’s and women’s marathons will be selected from the three (3) highest placing performances, based on marks set on IAAF-approved courses*, for the period March 7, 2018 through May 5, 2019 inclusive, who accept a position on the team, and provided that each selectee has met at least the IAAF World Championships qualifying standards of 2:16:00 for men and 2:37:00 for women.

The Eugene Marathon course (well the one that finishes at Hayward… there is another that finishes at Autzen but both are similar) is pretty quick. Only one very gradual incline after the first few miles and then the only real hill between miles 8-9. But presumably they would want a loop course for fans, TV, and security. The usual course has at least 10 miles on the bike path which would be hard to secure.

Maybe the three fastest are offered the invitation to compete, but they may not accept...
Three fastest during what time frame?
If three fastest 18 months or so out from Worlds I believe right now this would be Rupp 2:26, Hehir 2:08 and Droddy 2:09 for men.
Hall 2:20, D'Amato 2:22, and Bates 2:24 for women.

Go right to the source.
"The men’s marathon is set to open Day 3 of competition. The women’s marathon will be held the following morning on Day 4 of competition. Both the men’s and women’s marathon course will be a 14-kilometer looped course circling through Eugene and Springfield, Oregon. It will highlight the natural beauty and history of the heart and home of track and field in the U.S."

Yeah, I always assumed he would run. Hopefully there's more competition to get on the US team this year than normal.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
