Kiprop was born June 30, 1989 so he will be 33 years old next season, in 2022. It would be astonishing, I think, for him to get back to his previous level but if I’m pessimistic in that regard, I stand corrected. To get back to the same level in middle-distance running would be unprecedented.
You are not thinking of this right. Kiprop was actually busted for doping, served 3 years. If he gets back to his previous level, it will be due to doping! He was never a natural 3:26 guy and probably not sub 3:29 either.
I am interested in seeing what he can do, but if he starts popping sub 3:30s again he will automatically be guilty.
How do you know that doing didn't just help him reach his potential while being lazy?
Like if he trained all out he'd be a 3:26 guy but that takes a lot of work and you might get hurt training that much. Instead, you run 80% of the mileage and dope and blow off the off seasons and are just as good.
To act like Kiprop isn't a supreme talent is absurd. He won world junior xc. Not many milers do that. Or do you think he was on drugs then as well?
Just because you get popped later in your career that doesn't mean you were always on drugs. Despite her doping suspension, for example, I dont' think Mary Slaney was on drugs at age 14.
And yes, in the past, I've said if you get popped for intentional doping you should be banned entirely and have all of your records stripped, but I'm pumped to see Kiprop come back. Call me a hypocrite. It makes one of the sports most interesting events even more interesting.
