Time to reevaluate their life. They need to take the 500k+Insurance cash out and buy a nice 3 bedroom in Eugene. Boulder isn’t worth the struggle anymore. Grass is actually greener on the other side of this fence.

This sucks. I was hoping that Sage would become relevant this year. His running has been horrible for awhile and this has lead to his worst work on his YouTube stuff in a decade. Now this.
I will definitely donate to a gofundme
Where is the gofundme? Where tf is it???
What’s wrong with living in a condo?
It makes a lot of sense if you travel, or don’t have much time to maintain a house…
This is horrible news. I believe in Sage though and believe him and his partner will come out of this well and be an inspiration to many.
Condo living is perfectly fine, in theory. It's great for someone like Sage who is (was) travelling around a lot and didn't need a yard for kids. The only thing that drove me nuts when I lived in an apartment building way back in the day was the noise, especially from above.
Geez. Happy they are ok. Stuff can be replaced. Tough year. Too add on to the other horrible things , I think they shopped at that store in Boulder where the mass shooting occurred. While I don’t agree with all he says, he seems like a good human and has positive intentions. I hope there are good things on the horizon for both of them.

this is a good opportunity for Sage to ask Sandi to marry him and buy a new house with the $850K he is getting from the insurance company, they could start a new life in Oregon, and raise their kids

Did they not have insurance to cover the vast majority of it and then some savings? My house insurance covers the cost of the house and extra to pay for the stuff inside the house and temporary housing. Does condo insurance not work like that? Go Fund Me is more for the poor person who lives in an apartment and doesn't have renters insurance and no savings, so they are just out of whatever possessions they lost.
I'm sure they have insurance. But that doesn't cover immediate needs like weeks in a hotel room, replacing essentials, etc. - things they need to spend lots of $$ on before insurance claims are processed.
GoFundMe is for whatever you want it to be for. If Sage and Sandi's friends want to start a GoFundMe to support them, that's great. You don't have to donate!

In Eugene? How about buy some place in the Midwest outright for 225K, and use that extra 225 for the future not-working time (which is actually now, I guess).
They got family in Eugene. Would make an easy transition.

"Don't have much time"??
LOL. If I had to choose one person on earth where this statement would not apply, it would be Sage.
I don't know of any adult male that has crafted a life with responsibilities.

I saw a rumor online that the condo/apartment complex was built in the 1980s and has wood fireplaces in each unit (or some of the units). Rumor also said there is an HOA that takes care of safety issues with cleaning the vent areas of the fireplaces. It’ll be interesting to see what caused the fire (these people thought maybe it was related to the fireplaces tho)
I lived across the street in the mid-80s, and the place had been there at least a few years so I believe this checks out.
And you're correct the places had fireplaces.

My friend had a fire started in his condo due to roofers - anyway - his insurance covered all of those things (hotels, essentials, etc.). His insurer actually ended up putting him up in another better condo for a long time while repairs were done (cheaper than a hotel). He was hoping they would never fix his place.
I'm not saying people can't give Sage money if they want, but, his loss is most likely going to be things money can't replace - photos, memorabilia, etc. Also, hopefully he was smart and all of his data was backed up on a server/cloud somewhere - otherwise a burnt computer can be a huge loss of data.
