I'm a 38 y/o male who gets in and out of shape. I'm usually able to break 7 min/mile pace in a 10k once a year purely off of keeping my weight down and running about 10 miles/week (this normally includes 3 runs, 3 swims and a day off). I've had an inconsistent running hobby throughout my life and have kept my mileage really low since high school when I had some bad experiences with an overzealous coach and frequent injuries. Is it still possible for me to train for a marathon and break 3 hours? What kind of mileage are we talking and how long would it take me to get there? Is there a preferred program for someone like me? I've kind of decided that I'd like at least one marathon under my belt as a running enthusiast. I'd rather err on the side of staying healthy than on the side of chasing too fast a time but I'd still enjoy an ambitious time goal to work toward. Thanks!
