Florida has had more deaths than New York.
It has an older population and more people than New York. Less deaths per capita than New York.
If you adjust for age, which you should do since Covid has a wildly different death rate per age, Florida's deaths per capita are very similar to California. For example, if you look at deaths per capita in 80-90 age range, 70-80 range, under 70 Florida's numbers are almost identical to California. But if you are over 80 and get Covid, pre-vaccine, you had a 4-5% chance of dying where if you are 40 it's something less than 1 in 1,000. Since Florida has significantly more older people than most states due to it being a retirement hub it would be expected for a disease that is primarily deadly to the elderly to kill more people there. But that does not fit with the Death Santis narrative.
