I'm running under a new coach recently who is great, but he takes running WAY too seriously. He tries to get us warming up almost an hour before sessions (which I consistently ignore) doing 20+ minute jog then 15+ minutes of drills before a bunch of long strides. I see people doing all these knees up, heel flicks, all sorts of exercises, some of which I'd never even seen in my life before I joined the group.
All of this even before a tempo run where we'll be running at 10K-Half Marathon pace. I've yet to bother with any of these drills, but then once the session begins I'll end up running with them at the same pace as we're around the same ability level (Mid-high 14's guys). I really cannot see how they gain anything from doing all these fancy looking drills. Is there any logic behind this whatsoever?
