Yes, I did run 2:30. One of the most embarrassing races I’ve run. I did not get into the John Hancock field, meaning I paid everything out of my own pocket. The flights for me and my pregnant wife, place to stay, food, transportation - just like I have for all the bigger city races I’ve run. I’m not sponsored but I do work 45-50 hours a week as a cardiac sonographer in the hospital. Dealing with covid since Atlanta has been tough on my training but I still manage to get it in.
Not going to lie l, I was very fit going into this race. Unfortunately 10 days out I caught the taper cold that turned into some serious chest sinus and chest congestion . I just couldn’t shake off the sickness by the time the race started. My coach and I both knew race day wasn’t going to be the outcome we wanted but was still hoping for the best. It is sure easier to drop out and have a DNF by my name but Boston is not a drop out friendly course.
Lastly I’ll say this- there is very few people that would want to go shoulder to shoulder with me here in Louisiana with the type of conditions I had to endure for training. Leading up to Boston I had a heat log of 84 days where the dew point was NEVER below 74° With feel temps touching 78-80° by 6am… I don’t have any training partners or a group and my coach lives in Santa Barbara. I do this sport because I love the everyday grind more than actual races themselves. I’m 31 and have had a great deal of success 10 years after graduating college. So maybe you are right it is tome to keep the jogging to a hobby, but invitation is always open to come stay with pawpaw Jarrett outside of Jennings,LA
