They were in the race. Perfectly legal. Apart from that, I have no problems with pacers. You still have to show up and race. It would be pretty lame to protest. Looks like Wejo loves tilting at windmills. First it was the shoes, next the wave lights, now pacers. What next?
Many people do not like personal pacers in marathons. If personal pacers are legal then women should only be allowed women pacers.
However, ANY personal pacers in a race with prize money seems unethical.[/quote]
Who cares… if you are good enough to win the race then just got with the front group pacers if you are not good enough to go with the athlete and their pacers you probably won’t win. Or link others said find your own fast friend!
Please post a link to the rule.
Where is this high school or college rule? I believe that coaches can yell from the stands at a track meet and the can run around and yell at cross country meets.
The thing that bothers me about pacers is that somebody capable of winning a race is being paid not to. Athletes have gotten in trouble throughout history for doing that. What if today's winner had been paid to he Rupp's pacer but to pull off after 25 miles? It seems like race fixing now that we know he won. But we would have been fine with him getting $10k from Nike to run next to Rupp for 2 hours and then take a dive.. Imagine if Tom Brady pays the opposing defenders not to guard his receivers but just run really fast down the field so that his guys try to go faster than usual. Sounds reasonable.
When is it time to hold entirely separate women's races like the Olympics and Olympic Trials? Wouldn't that be better sport? Clearer coverage. Women's fields are bigger and faster than most mens were historically.
Tom
Idk if this was already mentioned- most annoying part about the private pacers for me (ADP) guy was that at least one of her pacers got elite fluids when the ADP ppl did not.

As far as high school goes, those rules differ by state. In Ohio, you can't give any pacing assistance.
Even that is hard to interpret. Can a coach yell at an athlete to run faster? Can he tell them they are off pace? Pretty much everyone is yelling things like that.

Elite Fluids? Are you serious?
There are no magic fluids unless you mean EPO infused blood transfusions.

I absoultely agree.

+1
I hear the elite fluids were Brawndo and that has electrolytes which plants crave

It was a mixed race. World Athletic rules allow for men pacing women. The greater concern is Ryan, who was not entered, running on the sidewalk and yelling at Sara.
It is why I prefer women only races (Boston, NYC). You?
No way Sara runs 2:27 without her pacers? Yes?

But wait - you can’t have it both ways. If you want to bring back a new sit and kick era, get rid of the pacers. Some elites really don’t need pacers (Kipchoge), and track races would be boring without pacers out there pushing. When elites don’t follow the agreed to pace, then the elites have to explain why.

wejo, as long as you have no guilty feelings and are proud of enabling the most blatant doping cheater in the history of all sports, then we shouldn't have a problem with it. You live with your personal evilness and we'll stand by and watch. Of course it is unfair to all the other runners, but nobody here cares anymore about being a good person.
This. Too late for mea culpas from the OP. Weldon took their money to do that job, this ethical about face should have happened at a far less convenient time to have any integrity. To summarize: FOH.
"Personal pacers," hub hunk with advice on the side, hey it's yet another scandal! But offering abject SaraBeisance, I'm sure that "personal pacers" and sideline nagging, plus say a little testosterone creme, would push all the rest of us to 2:27 and a bronze in Chicago.
They have supershoes on the track but I take your point

So it's ok if you were pacing? So only the leaders can have pacers?? Not sure what you are getting at here, but way to make it about you.
Then earlier bringing up sportsmanship when 2 Kenyans don't know the course at Quad Cities. Know the course if you're going for the win. 3rd place guy can't yell 20 secs ahead of him and expect them to hear it.
It's amazing how people can just have a different reality.
What he's bringing up is pretty obvious.
1) is it fair for one athlete to have 3 personal pacers when other athletes in the same race have zero or 1? When Weldon was pacing, he was pacing the lead woman. If Chicago had 3 pacers for anyone running AR pace, that would be one thing.
2) I brought up Quad Cities and that was pretty clear as well. Do you think when a runner sees someone run off course if a runner behind them says after the race, "It's not my job to stop it."
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
