How many miles a week do freshman run in D1 on average? Power 5 school. My son is a senior in high school doing 40 to 50 depending on the week. Just wondering how much of an adjustment it will be.

Walked on at CU back in the day. Came in as a 40-50 guy, immediately found myself at 60-70, and still wasn't going as long on Sundays as the upperclass guys, nor as slowly.
A good coach will adjust depending on the athlete’s injury history, prior mileage, ability etc… but if you want a number I’d say 65 mpw seems to be the average for solid freshmen,, with the biggest weeks around 75-80.
This is for a 5000m runner, milers are probably running 5-10 mpw less .
For starters, it varies. Some guys do lower mileage, some guys do higher mileage. Some teams do higher mileage than others. Some coaches have a lot of variability within their own teams. NAU for example had Baxter and Day running 110-120 mpw a few years back while some of the more injury prone guys on the team were running 30-40 mpw.
That said, the "recommended" progression is to add 5 mpw every 6 months. So if you are running 60 mpw during your HS senior track season your chould should bump you up to 65 for summer and xc, then 70 for indoor and outdoor, 75 for the next summer/xc and so on so forth. However, some kids get injured when their mileage gets too high, and some kids just get burnt out if they run too much mileage. So you follow the progression plan and stop bumping mileage when you stop improving for multiple seasons in a row. But if a kid keeps improving they should be at 90-100 mpw as upper classmen.

Just a note: as a strength oriented 1500m runner, I averaged 55 mpw freshman year, with peak weeks at 70. I ran relatively lower mileage before college (45 avg, 60 max) .

This is a pretty good answer…. Like they said a good coach I’ll adjust but they will likely be expected to run lots of easy miles over summer to roll into fall with the rest of the team.
Missing too much info to really say here. Is he an 800/1500 guy or a cross/5k/10k guy? Also very dependent on the school. There are programs where no xc guys run below 85 and programs where plenty of guys are running ~60. Freshmen get eased into it unless the coach is dumb
Depending on the program he may do at lot more or a lot less.
