Guy is tough, no doubt about it. You would think his PR would be better.

maybe after another training cycle. He might have pr'd if he'd only run Boston or Chicago.

Totally agree... I mean, yeah, what he did is novel... but personally I'm more impressed if he, say, ran 2:18 in a single marathon (which based on his 2:25 on a hard course and this performance... seems possible). On the flip side, we wouldn't be talking about him if he had just run one 2:18 this weekend. We humans like a good side show.
I think most 225 to 2:30 type marathon runners would not be able to align three marathons close to their best time within three days. So he is rather unique.

2:32:13. If the conditions were a touch more favorable this weekend, he almost would certainly run all three under 2:30.
Chicago sucked, but what was unfavorable about Boston? Good temps and cloud cover. Only thing was a bit of a head wind and the guy could have tucked in a group to help with that.

I honestly think the most impressive thing about this is the fact that he's in residency. This guy's been pulling all nighters 1-2xwk for the past 4yrs with maybe ~5hrs of sleep if he's lucky on the days in btw. Just no other way he'd be able to train 90+ mpw without cutting into sleep. I think it's a safe bet that he'd be quite a bit faster with better rest/recovery but I just can't for the life of me fathom how or why he'd plan to do this on an exceedingly rare 3day wknd, then actually pull it off.
I thought Marty Hehir was an absolute legend for keeping it up through med school and wonder if we will continue in res. There's more than a handful of former well known runners who went into medicine, but I can't recall many who kept it up at a high level. Pretty sure Miles Batty is an ortho resident as well, wonder what his training looks like these days.

Incorrect. All this means is that he's not a 2:25-2:30 type. Clearly, if he trains properly, he's capable of running much faster. Nice effort regardless.
Prove that he is passionate about running.
Residency is tough. I have no idea how far in he is currently but I would think not in his 1st year since might be almost impossible to fully train as an intern.
Sir Banister was a Med student when he broke 4 for the mile.

Bannister trained an average of 30-40 minutes per day 3-5 times a week. Almost all intervals. This has already been well documented. In today’s era with proper training Bannister would’ve been a 351 miler probably. He was phenomenally talented probably but what was outstanding about Bannister was his mental strength undoubtedly.
This sounds like something Mike Wardian would do. I think he did the 7 marathons, 7 continents challenge averaging 2:45. Maybe Tropf should pick up ultras or multiday stage racing. Wardian has had good success there (his marathon pr is like 2:17 or 2:18 i think)

Yes. One tough guy!
Well, he does have access to the best meds.
What could Kawauchi do for 3 in a row?
Ran with him in college. Solid dude. Glad to see he’s still out there crushing it
I'm still amazed by this. I want to have him on the podcast.
1. It looks like he did carry his own water in Baltimore.

2) Because of SW airlines problems, he had to drive from Chicago to Detroit to get to Boston. That's 4+ hours of driving.

How they run sub-2:35 and do STEM or Med professions is impressive. And all the pressure and lack of sleep too.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
