Kipchoge is a Vizsla-Spaniel cross. She can manage 20milers and is more than happy with running twice a day. Her biggest rolling 7 days was 103miles. I was impressed this summer with how well she managed the heat.
A border collie is going to be pretty hard to beat when it comes to a running companion but the long hair was off putting with frequent trail runs and potentially having to bathe the dog twice daily in Winter months. Short hair dogs just take a quick towel down even when filthy to clean off. I know Seb Batchelor (GB Mountain/trail runnner) does very big mileage with his two Border Collies.
I've just got a German Short Haired Pointer Haile who I think will be even more suited as a running companion than Kipchoge.
It depends on the coat with border collies. A more rough coated BC (thinner and curly coat) will hold dirt and need more frequent bathing. But a BC with slightly thicker fur that is mostly straight will not hold dirt. I run with my BC and she always finds the mud and puddles or wet grass. She is a mess when we get home, but her coat is like teflon. By the afternoon, all the dirt has fallen off and she looks like she never got dirty. I have to bathe her maybe once every four months.
BCs are prone to hip dysplasia. You need to be careful if you get a BC and make sure the bloodline has clean hip x-rays. BCs are also nuts. My BC herds cars. When a car goes by, she crouches down and then jumps up at them like they are a stray cow that needs to get moved back into the herd.
