I want to hear more about this "hundred million dollar yen prize."
Thanks to lax testing over the last year, this race is the most doped 'thon ever run.
Small group looks to be closing on Tamiru and distancing Rupp...camera makes it difficult to tell...
If Rupp has zero chances of winning, Tamru only has a tiny percent better chance. He’s going to backwards at some point in the race. All he did with the early fast pace is shoot himself in the foot.
Tropf is CRUSHING Flanagan.
Flanagan update - 19:23, 39:23, 59:02

Is this supposed to be a surprise? He’s a guy trying to break 2:30 and she’s a woman trying to break 3:00.

Rupp off the back? Pacing himself?
Rupp Split 1:02:40 for halfway. I don't think he has ever split 13.1 faster in a Marathon.
He ran 1:03:02 in Prague 2018 and 1:03:04 at Chicago in 2018.

He ran a 2:27 marathon yesterday. His pb is 2:25. Her pb is 2:21. She ran 2:35 last week.
I would think it would be close today. Unless Flanagan is taking it easy as she's running them back to back. He's not taking it easy. SO yes it's surprsiing to me.

Of course Ruth slowed. question is now can she add 5k splits of 16.39 as she just did to every 5k from 20 to 40 and get there in 2.10.30 with 2+k to still run?
Rupp is a god.
I'm not sure how maintainable this pace is for the leaders in the weather / wind. But Rupp is on near AR pace and I doubt he would stay on that if he didn't think he could run it
Chepngetich hits the half at 1:07:34, WR seems to be off the table as it's only slowing down but incredible start. The question is can Kiplagat catch up if Ruth blows up

Nah she'll slow down a lot more than that
Flanagan is clean tho. 🙃
Rupp is totally running smart - he may even be too fast through the half. He knows he’s not going to run 2:05. Run your own pace and try to finish strong in that final 10k.
