Anyone know what happened to Chalu Deso?? He was in 5/6th around 40k, then disappeared. I was thinking DNF, but looks like he walked (crawled?) the last 2k in 20 minutes!! Not used to see that sort of death march from an ETH elite.

I was curious about the rough effect of heat/wind. Just looked at the top 25 finishers in the 35-39 men's age group.
2019: 16 sub 2:30, average 2:26:54, average positive spilt of 61 seconds
2021: 3 sub 2:30. average 2:37:27, average positive split of 4:30.
this is a pretty tiny slice of data and only comparing one year of data, and who knows how covid has effected the depth of the age groups, but the most telling thing to me is the difference in positive splits from year to year, as that shouldn't be affected as much by the depth.
rough day.
Anyone else notice that Rupp beat the recent Japanese marathon record holder (2:04:56) Suzuki by 2 and a half minutes? Should give you an idea where Rupp is at.

Erik, do you know the story as to why Ruth dropped her pacer? Usually the pacers are either NCAA or experienced distance pros themselves. Or was the weather that bad?

Possibly because she was running something like 2:12 pace? Guessing he wasn't planning on running that fast.

Asterisk-san. Lol
The technical meeting presentation had 1:09:00 - 1:09:25 as the set pace (2:18-2:19). A lot different than 2:12 pace on a hot day.

I was watching when she dropped her pacer around 10 miles. He was just cooked and she was still on 2:12 pace and just ran away from him.

No, there's a few other idiots right there with you.
You might think that rojo would try to preserve a thread of intellectual honesty, especially after the pro Shelby stuff, but no, he just goes for broke.

I have no doubt he could have went further but she was clearly blazing the first 10k and went thru half 2 mins faster than planned (with a positive split within the first half). Some people are so used to running even or negative splits that running positive is actually hard for them. Why would a pacemaker want to get out that fast and then run positive splits the rest of the way cause the person you are pacing cooked themselves?

Rough day, but I'm guessing a handful of that folks around that age and talent are running Boston tomorrow.
Anybody know where I can watch a replay of the races today? Thanks!
Great run for Rupp. If he'd have ran London last week instead of Chicago, he'd be the American record holder right now. Depending on how much that means to him versus getting the largest appearance fee, next year he should not agree to run a major in advance. Instead, he could wait until he sees which of Berlin, London, and Chicago will likely offer the best conditions to take a shot at the record

TME's Reed Fisher in 2:14* .. meh .. still not living up to his 1:01 half.
Supershoe era aside, that's still a solid performance for a workaday runner who wasn't on anyone's radar in college. Heat does affect individuals differently, but it was clear from all the training vlogs that his training left him far less than perfectly prepared. At least he chopped 10 minutes off his PR, right? Any report on how many times he fell down this time?

Intelligence is not the issue here. This might be my favorite Rojo post of all time. We root for some and not others. It is not a crime to root for others to defeat Galen.
Emma had a pacer for over 22 miles. By that point all other women were well behind and the leader was not going to be caught. You don’t know what you’re talking about.
Hello, i am new here

It´s retarded because the reason is because of Rupp´s background, but then he goes on to defend a convicted doping cheat.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
