It's worth looking into the two Hoka ATR models which are designed as road-to-trail shoes. The Challenger would likely be the best because the Stinson would be extremely more cushioned than any Nike you've had, although the Challenger is pretty cushioned as well. The Challenger also doesn't run too wide as well.
Tugboat1980's adidas idea is also great because most adidas models have spectacular grip for road shoes.
There's also the Pegasus Trail which I've heard doesn't feel too clunky on roads. I also believe it doesn't have an air pocket as well. I actually have a pair of the 2s, but I haven't had a chance to use them yet.
