How many or what percentage of coaches in the country would win NXN if they were given the current Newbury Park team back in 2019 when the Young twins were Freshmen?

Probably 98%

They would be 9:30 2-milers anywhere else so it would be zero percent.

So, Walt Lange couldn’t get them under 9?

That's a load of crap, the cream rises to the top, they are motivated, they are all there at the same time, they would drive each other, they might not do a summer in Mammoth, other than that it's rock and roll.

I was joking. Newbury Park has been blessed with the equivalent of 2.5 sets of Mastalir twins and their runners would be as successful at just about any other HS.

Whew, I actually thought you bought into the coach being the second coming of Lydiard.
MAYBE 5% of high school coaches could have gotten great results with the Newbury Park athletes. I look around at my local area and I don't see a single coach capable of even getting the NPHS guys into the 9:20-9:30 3200m range.
A lot of coaches talk about team culture, motivation, dedication, etc but it's usually a load of crap since they are all talk and no substance.

Come on. In the Sacramento area, Davis and Jesuit consistently have had at least decent runners but there have been several random, one-off sub-9:00 guys at HSs with no tradition of good distance running. German Fernandez had absolutely no one to train with and his coach had no experience in training someone at his level but he still managed 8:34.
A talented runner needs "team culture"? What does that even mean?

I thought we were talking about team success. Anyone can get lucky with a once in a generation talent showing up at their school.
There's a reason why the same programs year after year are at the top of their state, regional or national rankings.

Look building a program is hard and takes a different skill set than just making training plans. But when you have the 5 most talented kids in the country you're going to win regardless.
