I have no idea how she walks in those knees let alone run… may be the greatest knee reconstruction of all time …
Zoom in on her knees … five inch zipper scars on both…
Incredible

Really impressive. Got to think she was holding back a little for London next week
Think about it. 6:03 pace. That’s training run pace for her. Say she is in2:30 marathon shape hypothetically, 2:38 is training pace
Masters women’s record 2:28:40. I wonder if that record is in her head

Did she retire too soon? A respectful time if she was just hobby hogging for her five 'Thons in 42 days.
Gwen Jorgensen's Youtube video from a few months ago had Flanagan doing mile repeats with other elites. I recall she did all but last 2 or something like that. She is definitely doing more than recreational running.
Maybe she is secretly training with Shelby doing 150 mile weeks and Shelby pops a 2:12 marathon in 2025 and along the way Shalane destroys the women’s masters marathon WR
2:38 people…that’s not crazy considering her recent past. Plus she is a Bowerman coach with people to train with who are faster

Sure, but she's running another five of these over the next six weeks so he's hardly going to burn everything in the first race. 5:42 pace for the second half is pretty impressive in context
Didn't Kastor run 2:27?
Is she getting any $$$ for these?

A 2:37 is a far cry from a near 2:20 that she would have probably hoped for if she was still training hard. And she was probably mentally and physically ready to stop training at that level that it requires to run near 2:20. I hope she keeps giving good efforts in the 5 remaining marathons. If she can run under 2:40 in all of them I'd actually be decently impressed, sub 3 for her is an easy run for elite women and not impressive.

Not bad. The real harbinger of how she's going to handle this challenge will be her next marathon. She was fresh for this one. She'll still be healing up and won't be fresh for the next one (... I mean, unless she's doping big time, which she might).
She should forget the multi marathon thing and concentrate on a spring marathon.

Is that a US record? Can't be all the world

Yes, Nike (and presumably others) are sponsoring her.

Don't forget the burritos.
Well, Running Cult Member mentioned "steroid cream" quite eloquently, but yes, the burrito diet, good point.
The usual letsrun BS....poor
Fun fact: Shalane loves running and just because she is not a pro athlete anymore doesn't mean that she has to stop running.
Her instagram post about the race is pretty funny. First time she has ever had to take fluids from little cups instead of bottles. She got to experience getting covered in spilled sticky sports drink for the first time. Welcome to our world.

Seems like Inside Tracker is also involved. I can't imagine they have that much cash, but I could be wrong.
So in summary, 2:38:32 means she is age group brilliant, a sand-bagger, or washed up. Gotta love opinions.
